Rich in tradition, cozy, and the perfect starting point for mountain tours in the upper Kaunertal. The Gepatschhaus is the oldest Alpine Club hut in Austria, located at an altitude of 1,928 meters, and thanks to its prime location directly on the glacier road, it’s the first choice for hiking and mountain tours.
Following extensive renovations, the Gepatschhaus now shines in new splendor — while staying true to its traditional alpine charm. Look forward to the familiar coziness with a touch of modern comfort:
Heated rooms for warm and restful nights, modernized sanitary facilities, improved insulation, and new windows for greater comfort and quiet.
The alpine hut is the starting point for many hikes, summit- and glacier tours: Weißseespitze, Glockturm, Vordere und Hintere Ölgrubenspitze - popular 3000 m summits which can be climbed directly from the hut. Other attractions are the Climbing Garden and the Holderli Seppl via ferrata - both in Fernergries, just 15 minutes walk away.
In 2021, the Kaunertal Nature Park and Glacier Region was named one of the world’s 44 "Best Tourism Villages" by the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). And the Gepatschhaus is located right in the heart of this region! The award recognizes economic, social, and environmental sustainability as well as accessibility, and stands for a future-oriented approach to tourism in our region. More than 170 regions from 75 countries had applied for the distinction.
